"Special Needs" dogs are those that are not considered to have a severe problem but they could use some help to be able to get the most out of life. They might be lacking in confidence and are therefore shy or timid around people or other dogs or when they are in new situations. Or perhaps the opposite is true and they tend to be a bit of a bully when playing with friends. Or they might do well in very small groups of dogs but either fall apart or get defensive when at the dog park or doggie daycare.

Puppies and adult dogs alike who are timid, fearful, lacking confidence or are in need of socialization skills can all greatly benefit from this service. This service has also been very helpful for puppies and dogs that are having generalized fear issues (people, noise, environments).

Whatever the case may be we have remarkable success in dealing with these types of dogs. Positive Approach is the ONLY facility in the area that offers the ability to create a group situation specifically tailored to your dog.

By hand picking from one to eight other "mainstream" dogs for the session we are able to supply a controlled environment for your dog while he or she learns proper communication skills as well as good manners when interacting with other dogs.

If the issue involves human contact, we can customize the experience to fit each dog's needs. We have men, women, and kids available to create the group experience and work on whichever issues involve your dog. Whether your dog seems to be afraid of the world or just a little too bossy during playtime, we can help them overcome it all through these custom group sessions!

The first step is to schedule an Initial Evaluation. During this appointment we will assess your dog's behavior and determine the best route to a happy, confident dog. While you are welcome to be present for this evaluation, we have found it to be most productive for the dog if they are left with us for 20 minutes followed by a 10 minute planning session with the owner. You may purchase an Initial Evaluation here. You will then be contacted within 1 business day to schedule a date and time for the evaluation.

We have experienced a phenomenal success rate with this service! 55% of dogs that have gone through Custom Socialization Groups are currently enjoying visits to the dog park or doggie daycare. 80% of dogs so far have either shown a marked increase in their self confidence around other dogs or are no longer behaving like bullies. The owners of many of these dogs did not think it would ever be possible for their dog to be comfortable, have fun, or behave in a socially acceptable manner in a group situation.
